My work in progress
For the last two days I dug up weeds, in spite of my employer’s suggestion that she will spray chemicals to kill the weeds, still I insisted that digging is better. Our front yard is bare except for the weeds that sprout every now and then. In this neighborhood, seldom you see flowers in the yard because the deers ate them. We have quite a number of deers in our County, The Montgomery.
In fact, in the middle of winter this year, the 6-month old Honda Hybrid of my employer collided with a deer who suddenly leaped in front of her car in one early foggy morning on her way to Walter Reed Hospital. The car was smashed partly to the driver’s side and partly in front. It also emitted some kind of spark in the engine area, so my employer has to dial 911 to avoid any fire and damage to the car. It cost the insurance company $6,000 to cover for the repair of the car.
In fact quite a number of accidents had happened relating to the deers roaming our neighborhood. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=9&ved=0CDMQFjAI&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gazette.net%2Fstories%2F08252010%2Fmontnew181641_32537.php&ei=zM51TPijL8KC8gbj4eT4Bg&usg=AFQjCNGv41n0sCDqqJo3v4f3Zyq-bRTP3AVehicle collisions with deer on rise in Montgomery County.
I remember the first time I arrived here in Maryland, I was excited every time I see a deer pass our front yard. Sometimes they come in one, or two, but most often they come by family of four to ten. In the Philippines, you have to climb a thousand feet, cross a hundred rivers and lakes, not to mention the snakes along the way for you to see one deer crossing your way.
I understand why. In the Philippines, deers are afraid of man for they will end up as dinner dish for the night. Here in Maryland, the man is afraid of the deer. At night, a driver with good sense will drive slowly, use the brightest light possible, eyes moving from left to right, so as not to collide with a deer. If, after all these cautions executed, still you collide with one of them, you have to move them to the side and report to the proper agency for proper disposal.
My story is about my work in progress, which is the beautification of our front yard, but the deers get in the way. Anyway, while my employer insisted that she sprays the weeds with the chemical, I insisted on digging them up. To my mind, while digging up the weeds in our front yard, I might as well dig up the mess I have created in my life lately. I believe, that while I beautify the front yard of my employer, I am at the same time cleaning my own life too.
This is not only for my own sake but for the kids too. They have to shovel at least four – wheel barrows full of mulch everyday coupled with doing their math packets before they can watch tv. I always believe that gardening is so enriching to the mind and the soul.
As I glanced at the glaring light of this world, sometimes, my own light got dimmed. Their light seemed brighter than I have for I may have forgotten to bring some oil with me along the way.
Matthew 25:3 (King James Version)
3They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
But the Church is not lacking; in the last minute, reproofs splashed like the speed of lightning and I thank God for that.
Proverbs 6:23 (King James Version)
23For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
And so, I come trembling and ask forgiveness to the Lord our God.
Proverbs 1:23 (King James Version)
23Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
In the forthcoming Thanksgiving of All Members, I invite everyone, to come join me in the beautification of my heart and soul, to offer a more meaningful Thanksgiving acceptable to our God Almighty.
Thanks be to God!
