Watergate to the White House; Altargate to the Vatican?

Headlines today in Washington Post runs this way:

CAN THE POPE RESTORE THE PURITY OF CATHOLICISM?

excerpts from the blog:

The scandal facing Catholics todaylooks a lot like the Watergate scandal that engulfed the United States in the early 1970s. Then, what started as a crime committed by a few burglars slowly escalated to reveal corruption at the highest levels of authority. The White House counsel, senior advisers and others were punished for their roles. In the end, the president of the United States was implicated and forced to resign.

THE WATERGATE SCANDAL

“Watergate” is a general term used to describe a complex web of political scandals between 1972 and 1974.

The word refers to the Watergate Hotel in Washington D.C. In addition to the hotel, the Watergate complex houses many business offices. It was here that the office of the Democratic National Committee was burgled on June 17th, 1972.

The burglary and subsequent cover-up eventually led to moves to impeach President Richard Nixon. Nixon resigned the presidency on 8 August 1974.

“Watergate” is now an all-encompassing term used to refer to:

  • political burglary
  • bribery
  • extortion
  • phonetapping
  • conspiracy
  • obstruction of justice
  • destruction of evidence
  • tax fraud
  • illegal use of government agencies such as the CIA and the FBI
  • illegal campaign contributions
  • use of public money for private purposes.

Most of all, “Watergate” is synonymous with abuse of power.

THE BIG QUESTION IS:

Is the Catholic Church on a similar pathway to the resignation of a pope?

THE BOSTON SCANDAL

The Archdiocese of Boston yesterday reached a tentative agreement with lawyers representing more than 500 people who say they were sexually abused by priests in which the church would pay the plaintiffs $85 million, the largest single amount ever in a case of clergy sexual abuse.
The agreement marked the dramatic conclusion to Archbishop Sean P. O’Malley’s all-out push in his first weeks in Boston to bring closure to the abuse cases that made this the epicenter of what many consider the gravest crisis in the history of the Roman Catholic Church in America.

The conclusion of the blog ends this way:

“But this is Altargate. The hierarchy, not the faith, is in jeopardy. The pope need not resign. He must do something far more difficult: convert.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/04/04/AR2010040402726.html

“What is it that the Pope needs to convert?

The Pope needs to convert the  whole doctrines of the catholic church  and align it to what is written in the bible.

After almost 45 years as a catholic, I have never  understood the whole meaning of the bible until I joined The Members – Church of God International.

When the Priest held mass for an hour, for me it was, as if it will last forever. The moment the mass went on for more than an hour, I was not comfortable anymore. I will look at my wrist watch, and I made sure the priest saw me doing it every now and then.

At one time I have read one comment posted in the  Wall of my  Facebook Account  and it ran more or  less this way: The priest was in the middle of the mass and he observed his parishioners were either sleepy or in discomfort. And so the priest said: “We are not even in an hour of my service and here you are either sleepy or just wanted to get out of the church”.  Why don’t you be like in the Congregation of Soriano, The Dating Daan?  The whole day they are singing and listening to Soriano, still at the end of the day, still reluctant to go home”.

And the priest was right, because personally that is what I feel too, inside the Church. As if, I still thirst for more, after the over flowing doctrines already given to us in just one setting.

Why is this so?

The doctrines are very clear, accurately aligned to what is written in the bible.

Along this line of reasoning, at what point The Members – Church of God International can go wrong?

“For the catholics were asked to  worshipped  and served  the creature than the Creator. They are the living witnesses to this doctrine in the bible:”

Romans 1:25 (King James Version)

25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

As it is  written in the bible :

2 Corinthians 6:16 (King James Version)

16And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Hebrews 8:10 (King James Version)

10For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
